Each of us brings our own experience and perspective to a given task. When it comes to conducting a workplace investigation, we believe we are always neutral but there may be elements to a complaint or just the people involved that evoke strong feelings within us. In some cases, we may be unaware of this bias unless we go through a deliberate process to identify it. Unfortunately, we have many examples of bias entering the investigation process and employer’s paying the price.
